What is an Encounter God Retreat?

An ENCOUNTER GOD RETREAT is a weekend individuals set aside with a primary purpose of re-storing hope for the unwritten tomorrows of their life. It is an intentional opportunity to encounter the real Jesus. At this retreat, we focus on learning how to deal with the hurts, hang-ups and struggles that we all face on a daily basis. We learn to recognize those things that have kept us from living life in its fullness, and we learn how to deal with the issues that hinder our ability to live out the greater dream that God designed us for. We will hear Jesus speak into the deepest places of our heart, and always hear his love expressed. We will learn how to access the freedom Jesus wants to give. Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, then you really are my disciples and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.’ (John 8:31-32 NIV) Expect an encounter with Jesus by experiencing…

What would I expect to experience at the Retreat?

• worship that invites you into His presence
• teaching that speaks hope and life into your journey

At the end of the Retreat, it is our desire that each individual will have entered into an intimate relationship with Jesus that will enable them to pursue their greater dream as Jesus leads them through the unwritten tomorrows of their life.

Who can attend an Encounter God Retreat? Those who…

• simply know there has to be more in their spiritual experience
• are settling for a lesser dream, but know they were created for more
• are committed to pursue their greater dream, but do not know how to move forward
• desire a life of joy, purpose and fulfillment
• have issues rising from past experiences, and recognize those issues are strangling any movement forward
• long for freedom in life, but it seems so illusive
• want to do life better than what they have seen modeled for them
• those who are 18 years and older

Worship Leaders:

Rob and Jocelyne Dinwoodie have both entertained on stages across western Canada including the Calgary Stampede. Most recently they have hosted the”Cowboy Dinner Show”, a tourist event where they provide a portrait of the BC cowboy in story and song. The couple are active in the Vernon Alliance Church where they serve as an elder couple and are part of the worships and arts ministry. Rob is a prolific song writer and has just completed his most recent CD, “Hands Up”, a compilation of songs of the cowboy life. Rob and Jocelyne reside on their ranch just north of Vernon where they raise horses and border collie dogs. Rob and Jocelyne look forward to leading worship at the April Encounter God at Green Bay Camp, Kelowna.

John Baergen:

In his role, as Co-Founder and CEO of The Leadership Centre Willow Creek Canada, John, together with his wife, Lorraine opened their home in 1992 as the office of a fledgling ministry designed to walk alongside church leaders in pursuit of more effective ministry. The ministry grew and 8 years later, The Leadership Centre merged with the Willow Creek Association whose ministry was now also making a presence on the Canadian local church scene.

It was in this position, that God began a work in John’s heart, placing there a deep passion for leaders, often the most qualified, being taken out of the game on issues of self-leadership. It was obvious, these leaders had the skills to lead the organization, but all too often, with the pressures and demands of their leadership role, they were unable to lead themselves. This passion grew in John’s heart, till finally the call of God was clear, and he passed on the baton of leadership on December 31, 2008 after 17 years of passionate leadership. He now remains on team in a mentoring role.

It was the pastoral experience as Executive Pastor at Sherwood Park Alliance Church, which put him in touch with Dr. Carl George of the Charles E. Fuller Institute for Church Growth & Evangelism. When Carl asked him, together with Lorraine, to establish the Canadian arm of the ministry, they immediately recognized the call of God.

With a bent for business and his pastoral passion and experience, John is never content to settle with an ordinary life. He has always believed that the local church should be the hope for this world, but too often has seen it fall short of God’s plan. It is the mental picture of these leaders that is now driving him on to see hope restored as leaders pick up the pen and fill in the pages of unwritten tomorrows that truly live out the greater dream.

What do I need to bring?

• Bible, notebook and pen
• Any personal items and toiletries
• Casual, comfortable clothing and shoes
• Bedding or sleeping bags, and linens (including towels)
• Games that you might like to play during breaks
• Above all, bring a heart that is willing to be ministered to by Jesus himself.

Post Encounter… Encounter Village

This weekly connection is offered every Monday night following the Encounter God Retreat. Its purpose is to equip those in attendance on how to consistently and victoriously walk with God; to continue to live out what they experienced at the Retreat.

These gatherings are strongly encouraged as it is a vitally important follow through to the actual Encounter God weekend. Spiritual highs are awesome, but it is steadiness that wins the race.
